August 28 is National Bow Tie Day in the USA

As an extremely important — well, at least to us — part of the human experience, bow ties get their own designated day. In the United States, that day is August 28.

Randa Accessories is a company that is behind several fashion brands including some of the Aficionado’s favorites like Countess Mara, Dockers, Kenneth Cole Reaction, and Champion. As a men’s fashion company, neckwear is an important part of its business. In a press release celebrating National Bow Tie Day 2013, the company reveals some interesting facts about bow ties. Here are some of the ones that I find rather interesting:

There are theoretically 85 different types of knots for a necktie, there’s only one knot for the bow tie. It doesn’t get simpler than that. If you can tie your shoes you can tie a bow tie. (emphasis added)

The number of Google searches for bow ties outpaces that of neckties and is trending up while in fact the number for necktie is trending down. Just today bow tie comes up at nearly 31.4 million in Goggle Search and the necktie a mere 12.3 million.

In Croatia, October 18th is Cravat Day commemorating Croatia’s part in the history of this men’s accessory. (link added)
