Wonder Lee’s Eco-friendly Bow Ties

As the great Kermit the Frog once opined, it isn’t easy being green… But that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun.

Wonder Lee is one lady who is celebrating eco-friendly fashion fun by making bow ties out of recycled material. As a self-described assemblage artist in The Bronx of New York City, she has found ways to care about the environment and fashion.

Lee uses a wide variety of materials to make her ties. They include plastic bricks (like Legos), board games (using Scrabble tiles to spell out “BOW TIE,” for instance), comic books, sheet music, and transit cards. I’m sure that newspaper, duck tape, wrapping paper, recipe cards, product packaging, and maps are some other material options.

When thinking of the environment, reuse and recycle are two very important verbs. The world already produces a lot of stuff, from the products that get featured on to other kinds across the board (a lot — but not all — of it is junk), and it doesn’t make sense to produce more to clutter up our homes and offices while filling up landfills.

For a brother of a Lego and Star Wars (Star Trek is better… #justsayin’) fanatic, this is a great find for a one-of-a-kind gift that will not only wow said sibling and others but will also impress Mother Earth. How about a X-wing tie made out of Legos?

One of Lee’s happy customers is American DJ and drummer Questlove (Ahmir Khalib Thompson) of The Legendary Roots Crew and The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. Questlove wears her bow ties on The Tonight Show and in interviews on shows like Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

If that’s not dope enough, Lee doesn’t just make ties for men. Women, kids, toddlers, dogs, and cats can also sport her wares. Further, bow ties aren’t the only items she creates; she also produces cufflinks and glasses.

Now the important part… Where can you buy this stuff? In addition to Lee’s site:
