Like Valentine’s Day and Christmas, one can spruce up their festiveness for Saint Patrick’s Day through bow ties.

March 17th is the day throughout the world. Green is the rule of the day, and one can avoid getting pinched by using that color in their neckwear.

As this a holiday that is more about having fun instead fixating on formal rituals and traditions with significant pressure (I’m looking at you, Valentine’s Day), there a very few guidelines to worry about. It is acceptable for people to look silly during the day, and that allows one to have fun without too much fuss.

Therefore, pretied ties are ok. The same goes for ones that have awkward sizes, shapes, crazy colors, and zany patterns. Sequins and glitter? Those are also ok. When considering all of these “guidelines,” be sure to also use good judgement. Oh yeah, wear green!

Remember, however, that this is a special day. Don’t run wild the vast majority of other days. Represent this neckwear fellowship well; have fun on this day while using wisdom and good fashion sense on other days.

So, where can one get a great necktie? Beau Ties Ltd of Vermont has a great selection. The Oriental Trading Company isn’t a bad option with all of its holiday-related wares. Etsy is also a good site to check. Note that none of these companies approached me to mention them, but feel free to contact me.
