Polish Bow Ties: Manhattan and Pixels

Marthu Bow Ties
A few weeks ago, I got an e-mail from Agnieszka informing me about the Polish fashion company Marthu. I decided to check out the site and was very intrigued by what I saw. One of the things that really stood out to me about Marthu’s bow ties is that they are bold and colorful. Those are two things that I’m not afraid of.
It seems to me that there’s potential for people to reveal more about themselves when people also them about the theme of a particular tie. For instance, I was drawn to the Manhattan Map tie. The pattern is exactly what is sounds like — a map of Manhattan. Marthu took a Google Maps section of this New York City borough and printed it on 100% cotton cloth. While I’m not a New Yorker, I have visited the Big Apple on multiple occasions and have fond memories of my time in the city. If someone asks me about the tie, I can tell about experiences I’ve had in the city. Imagine the stories someone wearing this tie could tell if they lived or worked in Manhattan. Either way, that’s why, when given a choice for a tie to review, I selected this one.

Now, here are some of my thoughts about the how the ties are made:
- The ties are thick, which I appreciate as it helps them keep their shape.
- The ties have an adjustable clasp for controlling their length. Many self-tie options have clips with measured slots. While the adjustable clasps takes ability to easily measure the length, it enables one to more closely fine tune the length. There are times that an 1/8 of an inch adjustment is better than a 1/4 adjustment.
- When untied the blades are flat and resemble the Batwing bow tie type. However, when one ties them, they take the Butterfly form.
- Both seem very sturdy and high quality. It appears that both will last a good while and hold their shapes and patterns for a long time.
Marthu clearly offers quality bow ties, but it also sells other fashion accessories that go well with bow ties. These include lapel pins and pocket squares. Check them out!
